description:
In the contemporary time just the extremely horizontal projects (the terraforming projects view from above) and the vertical ones (the skyscrapers view from bottom) are the projects that can produce a contemporary and recognizable image of the world.
What is the image of Shenzhen & Hong Kong in which we can recognize their own world? Both cities have growing vertically comply the second statement … but what’s about the first? Looking from the top we are obliged to expand our vision, not only two cities but the Pearl River Delta: a territory made up with water, vegetation, air and nine cities. The PRD’s environment is the system that combines all of the these components and pieces of land.
If geographical maps are the medium that allows us to look at t and recognize a territory, then the recourse to maps can zoom-out and interrogate ourselves about the emergence of the large system of the Pearl River Delta in form of a New Pangaea that puts together nine cities, green and agriculture creating a new environmental area in which the water is the center. The cartography is a usefully medium to recognize the territory and slowly wandering through the landscape including the missed and lost occasions.
